Beloved QC musician and disc jockey died last weekend

Two days before his 66th birthday, QC musician and disc jockey Dave Ellis passed away from lung cancer, at 65, on April 23, 2022, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Ellis was born April 25, 1956, in Muscatine. He married Kathy Chapman, and while they later divorced, remained friends, according to his obituary. Those left to honor his memory include his life partner and best friend of many years, Tammy Viscioni; children Jesse Ellis and Hannah (Chad) Ellis Ackerman, both of Davenport; daughter-in-law, Shelly Ellis; grandchildren, Baleigh, Leah, and Evie; niece, Tawny Cunningham; nephew, Jay Craig Ellis, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

Merle Haggard and the Strangers' Don Markham Dead at 85

One of country music's most versatile and highly-regarded musicians has died. Don Markham, who played with Merle Haggard from 1974 until his retirement in 2013, died Friday (Feb. 24) in Oildale, Calif., at the age of 85. Markham was a multi-instrumentalist and horn player who came up through pop and jazz, but changed course when the music scene in Bakersfield, Calif., where he worked, began to become influential in country music.

Oxbridge Academy to Open Middle School

 Oxbridge Academy will expand its academic scope to include a middle school for seventh and eighth grade students beginning in August 2021. “Adding a middle school expands our commitment to offering a world-class education and gives younger students the opportunity to experience and benefit from our enriching culture that nurtures and instills Oxbridge values within a diverse and inclusive community,” said Ralph Maurer, head of school at Oxbridge Academy. Oxbridge attracts students from across Palm Beach County and Martin County to its 54-acre campus in West Palm Beach.

Laurel man charged for shooting at NEJ students | Free News

A Laurel man was arrested last week after being accused of shooting into a vehicle full of high school students. Ladarious Fenderson, 29, was charged with four counts of drive-by shooting and booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center. He reportedly shot into a pickup that passed his vehicle on Susie B. Ruffin Avenue just after 5 p.m. on Sept. 25, said Investigator Rodrigus Carr of the Laurel Police Department.
