Laurel man charged for shooting at NEJ students | Free News

A Laurel man was arrested last week after being accused of shooting into a vehicle full of high school students.

Ladarious Fenderson, 29, was charged with four counts of drive-by shooting and booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center. He reportedly shot into a pickup that passed his vehicle on Susie B. Ruffin Avenue just after 5 p.m. on Sept. 25, said Investigator Rodrigus Carr of the Laurel Police Department.

Four Northeast Jones students were in the pickup, “and they heard shots,” when they passed a vehicle, and there were two bullet holes in the tailgate of the truck, Carr said.

Carr was eventually able to track down surveillance video that supported their story, then get the vehicle tag information to track down the suspect and recover a handgun that was believed to have been used in the shooting.

They were fortunate no one was injured, said Carr and LPD Chief Tommy Cox.

Fenderson was arrested last week and made his initial appearance in Laurel Municipal Court, where Judge Kyle Roberston set his bond at $60,000 — $15,000 per count. Fenderson was still in jail as of Monday morning.
